Having served lived with numerous cats in my adult life, I’d guess it was to keep these two (+?) from assuming the shallow window sills were not, in fact, traffic options while OP is cooking/cleaning/otherwise not paying direct attn to said devious, needy feline interloper. 😜
Nope, he did that to himself trying to attack the other kitty. Not betrayal, KARMA!!
