!blooddonors@lemmy.world exists! Don’t know how big it will get, I feel there is not too much to talk about, but there are always newbies with questions and even experienced donors having a change in their experience and wanting to know why it happened on r/blooddonors, so…

Go donate, I think it’s fun. I just keep doing random crap on my phone with one hand while squeezing some squishy stress-ball type thing on another the whole time for actual blood donation. 10 minutes with the needle in your arm.

If you donate platelets, the place I do it at puts needles in both arms and it is like 2–2.5 hours, so they have a TV for you to watch hooked up with Netflix and other streaming services as well as YouTube. Again, squeeze some stress ball type thing the whole time.

Also, I’d say 15–30 minute wait + filling out the permission stuff and getting tested for eligibility to donate. Free snacks at the end of both. I get to help sick people by sitting on my ass and letting other people do the hard work of taking my liquids, pretty cool.
