  • I’m laughing at their YouTube’s response. Obviously someone used a thesaurus to write it and didn’t know that “incalcitrant” is not even the word, no major dictionaries list it. It’s like using irregardless instead of regardless The word they YouTube wanted is recalcitrant.

And it’s very telling that they YouTube used that word because it shows they think they are King.

    Recalicitrant:

Stubbornly resistant to authority or control.

Unwilling to obey orders or to do what should be done.

Resisting authority or control; not obedient or compliant.

Edit: I’m laughing at YouTube’s response. I thought that was clear by context… I guess people who didn’t read the article didn’t get that? Maybe it was paywalled to them?

Words matter, and by using the one they did, YouTube is basically saying that they demand people obey them.

  • Account sharing is against GGG’s ToS, so Elon should be banned. He probably RMTed it though (still against ToS). He would be fucked during a race though.

In PoE 1: racers stream their entire race. Once a league Zizaran hosts the Gauntlet (HC/SSF) race event, streaming on Twitch (often with a 4-panel split screen). They sub out different races to highlight boss fights and whatnot. You have to provide proof of any “bounty” you won. There are some cash money prizes, so this is all very strict.

During these races, players often have a timer showing how long they’ve been going, and it’s not unusual to see 37 hours of straight streaming the first day. GGG hosts World Firsts events after XPac stuff, and is mindful of exploits.

That is all PoE 1. PoE 2 is in early access; it’s the same people, so it should be the same integrity. I know a lot of Diablo folks came over for it, so I can’t speak for them.

  • I was going to bring up card catalogues and microfiche, but it is more difficult now, especially with all the AI written articles popping up a la carte as top results.

I guess it would be like the physical library having a fee^1 to enter, the librarian men and women in lingerie and banana hammocks, and all the publications unsorted: Fiction and Non-Fiction together with celebrity magazines, The National Enquirer, and nazi publications… and lots of torn out pages.

^1 Fee replaces ads. I’d rather not picture a world where the advertising in the show Maniac exists. (Can’t afford the bus? The ad-reader shows up and speaks ads at you until you have “earned” the $1.25, or whatever.)

  • Positive reinforcement works better for helping people quit :(

Especially when quitting smoking tanks a person’s dopamine levels. It takes weeks for the body to re-regulate production.

To anyone reading this who has quit/is quitting: congratulations! It’s tough, you have shown a force of willpower and should be proud of yourself.

    Love, a fellow Canadian.

    Edit:

As with other forms of punishment, aversive methods are generally less effective than positive approaches. It is more important to reward and praise desirable behaviors than to react negatively to unwanted ones. Encouraging a person’s ability to enjoy self-affirmation and self-pride will help them internalize healthy attributes and to become a person deserving of admiration…Shame doesn’t motivate prosocial behaviors; it fuels social withdrawal and low self-esteem.
