Youtube has been hiding videos from me for years. I’d look at my “Subscriptions” page, and wouldn’t see anything new. Then I’d go to the channel’s page, and see a few new videos.
That prompted me to start using my RSS reader instead of youtube subscriptions. A more reliable experience, for sure.

I still run my own server. My friends and I hang out and play with chat bots and send memes and comics back and forth. It’s a pretty chill place to hang out, and it’s super easy to self-host.

qutebrowser is my default browser. I love it!
Because it’s unfortunately still true. I have a video-card that I can’t upgrade because it nvidia drivers keep breaking my display. I’ve had to swap distros because some don’t work well with my audio-card, or my wifi-card. I was able to get them working eventually, but pretending that it wasn’t a pain in the ass would be a lie.
This attitude of “everything works fine, and if it doesn’t that means you are doing it wrong” is why people don’t like trying Linux. We have to be realistic about the experience. It’s massively better than it used to be, but pretending its flawless is just dishonest.
Nice! I use Debian all-day every-day, and I think it’s a great starting distro, if a bit dated sometimes. I’d be a little cautious of Debian 13 as it just came out of testing, so it might have some lingering bugs. But if it works for you, then it works :)
Don’t let the haters get you down. As a long time linux-enthousiast, you are 100% correct. It absolutely still has troubles and doesn’t “just work”. it’s a lot better than it used to be, and it’s on a great upwards trajectory!
But we as a community are overly dismissive of real problems, and I think that does a lot of damage to our reputation.

They get money from Google, advertisements, and selling data. Did you think Mozilla made it without paying their employees and executives?

As someone that self-hosts those things, both professionally and personally, I’m gonna have to disagree. I wish more did, but there are plenty of self-hosters out there, they just don’t get headlines.
I dunno about ebay specifically, as they haven’t banned my account. But I meant this more about websites in general. My experience is that they could just look at the name on my credit-card and realize that I’m the same person, but they don’t. I’m sure there are exemptions.
One of the reasons that I like owning my domain, is that I can just make another account. ebay2@somedomain.com, and I’m back to buying.
Yes. I find a lot of people actually learn what they are talking about before talking about it. I also find that a lot of people read what I write, and address those points, rather than points that I never made.
I’m OK with it existing, but it should be an addon. Not something that Mozilla pushes onto people who don’t want it.
Silicon Valley has a consent problem, and Mozilla is no different.
