Judging a captive market for not being able to break free from a monopoly is just another form of oppression, buddy.
General nerd, programmer and sci-fi reader and writer. Neurodivergent, ADHD.
She/her.
Judging a captive market for not being able to break free from a monopoly is just another form of oppression, buddy.
Plot twist: And they’ll still pack their passengers like sardines.
It’s the old spam problem again. Spammers pass the cost of their customers to their victims, while AI bots pass the cost of their crawling to the sites they crawl (without authorization).
I see no easy solution for this.
I can testify on that.
In the last two years, I’ve discovered VTubers and streamers in general.
I’ve discovered Geega’s tech talks, Deme’s videogame playthroughs, Michi Mochievee’s amazing (and shocking) IRL lore, VShojo group gaming sessions, Dokibird’s third wheel viral video, Ironmouse’s gremlin moments with Connor, Melody getting raided at the most inopportune times, Henya’s Minecraft trolling exploits, Vedal and Camila’s hopecore video, Neuro-sama’s singing and otherwise general roasting comments on human VTubers, and wholesome gaming streamers like Beacon of Nick.
Not to mention a number of woodworking youtubers teaching about, or otherwise making mistakes when building or restoring furniture.
There’s content for everyone, and traditional TV doesn’t even come close.
It’s like stepping out of a boring office into Alice’s Wonderland.
The creativity is out there and it’s a joy to see what can be without corporate meddling.
Why would they even want money from a fixed pool?
Give them percentages of the sales.

“The net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it.”
Users will search for new places. The fact that we are here is proof.
Build it, and they will come.
Interesting.
Now if they plugged this into an intelligent agent powered by expert systems instead of a conversational parrot we might start to have actual futuristic AI applications.
Civility is what is demanded of the oppressed after the oppressors robbed, assaulted and threatened. No more. ✊
Oh fuck off, bootlicker.
Yeah he basically called the lawyer an idiot. 😆
A 500-watt electric pump serves as the robot’s “heart,” pushing fluid at 40 standard liters per minute.
As usual, when you read the article you stumble upon a gigantic technical hurdle. 😕
EDIT: And I’m not against the technology. I’m all for prosthetics and humanoid robots for menial work.
Just imagine the possibilities if full human-pike prosthetics are developed. Think of people who have lost their arms or legs, suddenly being able to walk again.
(And of course, applied robotics for sex bots 😉)
You mean censorship and espionage in the name of child safety?
Because I’ve heard that one before… too many times.
And it’s quite sus that this happens the first month of Trump’s office.
No, I’m not buying it.
And in 2026, deep divers will be searching for datapads to find out what went wrong.
Not necessarily. Corporate money has a hidden contract. Mainly, you will develop what we tell you to develop and you will stall what we tell you to stall.
Google money is ad money. It’s DRM money, it’s private silo money, not general development money.
If you believe corporations drive all good development in the world, look at how many projects have been bought and killed by Microsoft.
In fact, why would Firefox accept money from one of its competitors? That’s SUPER fucked up.
Just think about the anti features that Google mmay want Firefox to implement: Unlockable ads, third party cookies, user tracking, and so on.
Is tha the development we want?
I say, let’s open fundraisers and keep Firefox free of corporate influence.
It’s a threat to the Mozilla CORPORATION, not the Mozilla Foundation nor the browser.
Nothing to be really scared about. Move along.
xkcd warned us and that didn’t listen.
You don’t seem to understand the issue. Facebook IS the bad actor. They’ll allow racists, nazis and all kinds of assholes just as long as they get their sweet advertising money.
Instance admins moderate according to community rules. Zuck moderates according to what’s most profitable.
To put it another way, imagine reddit started federating with Lemmy, and suddenly all the users from TheDonald started harassing our political forums. If that sounds bad, remember how many fake accounts ran by shills and foreign states (read: Russia) appeated on Facebook between 2014 and 2017.
If you don’t give a shit abount Facebook enabling genocide, amplifying white supremacism or, you know, selling milluons of users’ private data to the Kremlin, then sure, why not.
This isn’t about elitism, this is about a known bad actor threatening to harvest our conversations without our fucking permission, or using Microsoft’s tactic of “embrace and extend” to destroy the competition.
Anyone can implement ActivityPub. We have no problem with that. Facebook is a corporation whose business strategy has consistently been about harvesting users’ data and selling it to political advertisers.
In all honesty, if I was told my data would be handled by some guy in the Philippines rather than a black box algorithm, I’d consider that a plus.
“Human-handled” needs to be some a badge of honor.
